Chapman to hold 2024 Economic Forecast for the upcoming year
At the end of every fall semester, Chapman holds an Economic Forecast of insight into what the new year will bring for economics.
This year's Economic Forecast will be held on Thursday, Dec. 12 in the Musco Center for the Arts at Chapman from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. The forecast will explore the United States, California’s and Orange County’s economies.
Former Chapman president, Jim Doti, and professors Raymond Sfeir and Fadel Lawandy will be reviewing the economic aspects of the past year and additionally looking into what 2025 might bring in the area.
“Key topics will include strategies for smart investment decisions, the potential rebound of the construction sector and how far the Federal Reserve may lower interest rates,” said a press release by Chapman posted on Nov. 20. “Attendees will also gain valuable insights into the likelihood of a return to the three percent mortgage rate and an analysis of the long-term economic prospects for California and Orange County.”
In addition, economies including the gross domestic product, employment, inflation, interest rates, taxable sales, home sales, home prices and other economic variables will be discussed at the forecast.
The forecast is being held by Chapman’s A. Gary Anderson Center for Economic Research. This center was created to help support the Chapman community in understanding economic research. They also provide guidance in economics and are noted for their accuracy in predicting trends in the field.
“The presentation will start with an explanation of the variables that impact output in the economy and what the increase of that output will be next year,” said Sfeir. “The impact of the policies of the federal government and the Federal Reserve on inflation, employment and the budget deficit will be presented.”
Sfeir, who is the director of the A. Gary Anderson Center for Economic Research, developed the forecast alongside Doti.
“We have been very proud of our forecasts over the years as they came out to be more accurate than the forecasts of a large number of major financial institutions who also develop economic forecasts,” said Sfeir.
For those interested in attending the Economic Forecast, registration can be completed on the event webpage to watch either in person or virtually.
