Trigger warning: homicides, stabbing

Two 23-year-old Chapman graduates died Tuesday morning in a stabbing that took place around 6:30 a.m. inside their Anaheim apartment complex — Stadium House Apartments — on 2100 E. Katella Avenue.

Griffin Cuomo, who graduated with a bachelor’s degree in strategic and corporate communication in May 2021, was the roommate of Jonathan Bahm, who graduated at the same time with a bachelor’s in computer science. The students were involved with Chapman’s Phonathon and the Cybersmart Panthers Grand Challenges Initiative (GCI) team, respectively.

The Chapman University community learned of the graduates’ identities and their affiliation with the university in an April 20 announcement sent by Matt Parlow, Chapman’s executive Vice President and chief advancement officer. 

“Being such recent graduates, I know that many on campus share in the heartbreak of this tragedy,” Parlow wrote. “It is terrible when we lose members of our Chapman family, and I encourage those who are hurting to seek support from our campus services or others during this difficult time.”

When authorities arrived at the homicide scene, they found 26-year-old Ramy Fahim — an Irvine resident and co-worker of Cuomo — alongside the deceased victims. Fahim had suffered minor, undisclosed injuries and was later taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, where he was questioned by Anaheim police officers.

After the interrogation, Fahim was arrested on suspicion of murder in the double-homicide and taken in to the Anaheim City Jail. A knife was also discovered at the scene, which detectives believe was used in the killings.
