Opinion | The “new” freshman experience
As a freshman at Chapman University, every experience is new to me. Despite this year’s unprecedented circumstances, I’m not entirely sure what I’m missing out on.
Editorial | Zoom: United in isolation
It’s OK to not always be Zoom-camera-ready. It’s mentally draining to be “on” all of the time, and it’s imperative to take a much-needed breather.
Opinion | How COVID-19 interrupted my study abroad
What hit me hardest was what came afterward. I could make a huge list of all the things I feel I missed out on in London.
Opinion | Online workout classes: a saving grace
A place with no stares, no catcalls and no underlying fears doesn't exist in the real world. I am reminded of the hard truth when I venture out into reality.
Opinion | Since you’ve been gone: campus as a quiet, steady pulse
A global crisis. An unprecedented time. I’m starting to realize how surreal it feels to walk through an almost-empty campus.
Editorial | ‘Stick to sports’ is racist and dehumanizing
When you tell a Black athlete to “Shut up and dribble,” you are only valuing them for those gifts and not their entire person. There was a time when valuing a Black person for solely their physical attributes was called “slavery.”
Opinion | Now is the time to utilize your student government
We will, without a doubt, face many hurdles this semester. Nonetheless, the Student Government Association will be there to support students throughout it all.
Opinion | Diversity, together
With action over inaction, tolerance over intolerance and inclusion over exclusion, there will be unity among all members of our fraternities and sororities.
Opinion | So you think you can reform Greek life
When a privilege has been nefariously abused as much as Greek life has been, it’s worth considering whether it should be revoked.
Opinion | It’s not time to cancel ‘cancel culture’
I sometimes wish I could experience a world without all this digital madness. But I know this isn’t a first for cancellations in the history of humankind, and it won’t be the last.
Editorial | Chapman can do better
As Chapman is a microcosm of America with its flaws and freedoms, being proud to be a Panther often means reflecting on how Chapman can do better.
Opinion | ‘WAP’ is more powerful than controversial
There’s a massive library of grossly explicit content from male rappers. So getting mad when Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion release “WAP” just screams “misogynist.”
Opinion | Despite post office, pandemic and president, I will vote
This year is different. The stakes are higher and our current president is threatening our livelihoods and our democracy.
Editorial | Where is the line?
On Aug. 12, Chapman law professor John Eastman published an article in Newsweek questioning Kamala Harris’ citizenship. So many members of the community that Chapman claims to care so much about, were outraged – and the institution does nothing except hide behind the front of free speech.
Opinion | LinkedIn is secretly toxic
LinkedIn preys on people like us. It preys on the perfectionists, the workaholics, the people that feel slightly self-conscious whenever they see anyone in a more advanced career position.
Opinion | ‘Indian Matchmaking’ exposes realities of arranged marriage
I can’t say if you should try matchmaking. What I can say, however, is that matchmaking is an option.
Opinion | Masks aren’t political, neither is kindness
Wearing a mask has nothing to do with one’s political affiliations, nor should it. It’s a piece of cloth.
Editorial | We have to break the cycle
Over the past few months, there’s been too many times where we as students have not been proud to be Panthers.
Opinion | How online classes have helped to cope with my anxiety
Here’s the closest I can come to depicting what goes on inside my body before I speak in class: I start to sweat in my palms and armpits, I feel light-headed, I experience shortness of breath and my heart races so fast that when I look down, I can see the rapid beating through my blouse. And this is only before I speak.
Opinion | Legacy prohibits equal opportunity from sorority recruitment
In trying to be a better ally to the BIPOC community, I’ve found it critical to self-reflect and see the places in which I may be unconsciously contributing to the systemic racism that remains ever-entrenched in our nation’s history. One example is in my participation in sorority life, a current topic of controversy among many progressive activists.
